![]() American Legion Post 489 May Calendar of Events 21 May 2023 Event: Recognition of Yorkville High School Seniors enlisting in the Military Location: Yorkville American Legion Dress: Legion white shirt, Navy/Black pants, post cover Time: 11:30 HRS Showtime: 12:00 HRS Amount of help needed: Minimum of 5 in uniform for the honor guard. Requirements of Post: We will have an Honor Guard Post colors for the new recruits and family members. The post will have a representative talk about what the American Legion can do for the recruits along with parental support. We will also have the Kendall County VAC present to talk about what they do. We will also have cake and coffee for the recruits and their families. 27 May 2023 Event: Combat Veterans Middle East Conflict Wall Memorial Location: Yorkville American Legion Dress: Legion white shirt, Navy/Black pants, post cover Time: 10:15 HRS, to load the bus with equipment needed for Honor Guard Leave for the event: 10:45 HRS Showtime: 12:00 HRS Amount of help needed: 15 in uniform for the Honor Guard Requirements of the Post: Our Post presents the colors over the Middle East Conflict Wall every year to honor our most recent conflicts. We work with the Legion Riders with this event. Our Post will present the colors, perform the riffle volley, and the possibility of playing taps. Our post has been the only post to provide this service for the Combat Vets over Memorial Day weekend since the wall has gone in. After the event the post has always provided a lunch out in Marseilles for helping during Memorial Day weekend as a way of saying Thank You for your help. Please respond to Tony (Commander) that you can help out. 28 May 2023 Event: Family Fun Fest Location: Yorkville American Legion Dress: Casual Time: Contact Kelly if you are going to volunteer for this event to see the times and areas that we will need help at. If you are attending, the festivities start at 11:00 Hrs. We will be having Ax Throwing, Food Trucks, Face Painting, Craft Vendors, 50/50 raffles, and Live Music. Please bring out the family for a great time. 29 May 2023 Event: Memorial Day Ceremonies Location: Yorkville American Legion Dress: Legion white Shirt, Navy/Black pants, Legion cover Time: 07:15 HRS Showtime: 07:45 Amount of Help Needed: Minimum of 15 in uniform, BSA Scouts and riders not in uniform for the American Flag line. Requirements of the post: Our post will provide Military Honors at: 07:45 American Legion Post 08:15 Cross Lutheran Cemetery (Cemetery behind church) 08:30 Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Ament Rd. 09:00 Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, 9536 Immanuel Rd. 09:30 Pavilion Cemetery, Pavilion Rd. Yorkville 10:00 Oak Grove Cemetery, Cannonball Trail, Bristol 10:30 Elmwood Cemetery, Somonauk St. Yorkville We will be able to take a break after the last cemetery until about 11:15 HRS. 11:15 Town Square Park, we will provide the City of Yorkville Honor Guard and rifle volley to pay tribute to our fallen comrades that have gone before us. We should conclude our service around 12:15 HRS and we will go back to the Legion Post for lunch. 31 May 2023 Event: Eldamain Bridge Ribbon Cutting Location: Yorkville American Legion Dress: Legion white shirt, Navy/Black pants, Legion Cover Time: 12:00 HRS Showtime: 12:15 HRS Amount of help needed: 7 members in uniform minimum. Requirements of the post: We are going to participate as the honor guard for the ribbon cutting of the Eldamain Bridge. There will be dignitaries from all over the state attending this event. We want to look as sharp as possible for this event. I do not believe we will be having a big part in this event but were asked to be the Honor Guard.
